Farewell visit of H.E. Miloslav Stašek to Nepal between July 11-15, 2015

Third farewell visit of Ambassador M. Stašek led to Nepal between July 11-15, 2015, where he was received by President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Vice-President of Parliament Onsari Gharti Magar, Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Minister of Trade and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa, Minister of Industry Mahesh Basnet, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kripasur Sherpa, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat, Minister of Transport Bimalendra Nidhi and other representatives of the Nepalese Government. Ambassador M. Stašek also met with Board of Directors of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Confederation of Nepalese Industry as well as with representatives of non-governmental organizations with which the Czech Embassy in New Delhi implemented several small local projects such as Namaste Nepal (bamboo schools project), Centre for Inclusive Social Development (project aimed at digging wells for drinking water in Patan) or NGO Conscious Media Network which implemented project training of young Nepali journalists.

Engagement of the Czech Republic during the last tragic earthquake was exceptionally appreciated during Ambassador´s visit. Nepalese Governmental officials at all levels expressed their gratitude  that the Czech Republic was among the first countries that offered assistance to Nepal, provided humanitarian aid and achievements of the Czech trauma team deployed in Melamchi won especially high reputation in Nepal. During the past 5 years, Nepal has seen more and more Czech products coming to the country such as Škoda cars, airplanes L 410, Czech jewelry, as well as industrial components i.e. turbines for hydroelectric plants.

Mutual economic potential has not been fully exploited yet. However, during Ambassador Stašek´s term several high-level visits from the Czech Republic were organized not to mention the most recent  visit of the Minister of Industry and Trade J. Mládek in January 2015 which was the first ministerial visit to the Czech side since the overthrow of the monarchy in Nepal. Signing of the Agreement on Economic Cooperation that took place during this visit can be considered as a new ground for further development of economic cooperation between the two countries. Czech side expects the first meeting of the Joint Czech-Nepalese Joint Commission to happen during the visit of the Minister of Finance of Nepal in the Czech Republic at the beginning of 2016.

Both President and Prime Minister of Nepal thanked the Ambassador for his enormous effort and all the activities carried out during his five-year term that fundamentally contributed to enhancement of mutual relations to the new level. During this period the volume of mutual trade quadrupled and Nepal has also seen a significant increase in the number of Czech tourists.
