Czech Ambassador H.E. Eliska Zigova presented the Letters of Credence to the President of Sri Lanka

The Czech Ambassador Eliska Zigova conducted a five-day official visit to Sri Lanka from 31st January to 5th February 2023 with aim to present the Letters of Credence as a non-resident Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka. During her first official visit to Sri Lanka, H.E. Eliska Zigova met with leading political representatives of Sri Lanka including President of Sri Lanka H.E. Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Czech Ambassador used the opportunity of her visit to sign a bilateral Agreement between the government of the Czech Republic and Sri Lanka on the elimination of double taxation and to hold a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit of H.E. Eliska Zigova to Sri Lanka took place during the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka and the commemoration of thirty years since the establishment of bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Sri Lanka.

On February 2, 2023, H.E. Eliska Zigova presented the Letters of Credence to H.E. Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Sri Lanka, as the non-resident Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka. The festive ceremony took place at the presidential summer residence in Kandy. The ceremony was followed by an informal meeting between the newly appointed ambassadors and important constitutional officials of Sri Lanka. H.E. Eliska Zigova spoke briefly with President Ranil Wickremesinghe who thanked her for the long-term friendly relations between Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic. Wickremesinghe also expressed an interest in deepening cooperation with the Czech Republic in the economic field.

The Czech Ambassador H.E. Eliska Zigova used the opportunity during her official visit to Sri Lanka to sign a bilateral Agreement between the government of the Czech Republic and Sri Lanka on the elimination of double taxation and hold a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and Sri Lanka on the elimination of double taxation was signed on Friday, February 3, 2023 at the Ministry of Finance of Sri Lanka in Colombo. The Agreement was signed by H.E. Eliska Zigova on behalf of the Czech Republic and by Deputy Minister of Finance of Sri Lanka K.M. Mahinda Siriwardana on behalf of the Sri Lanka. The act of signing the Agreement was followed by a short bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on the state of the Sri Lankan economy and opportunities for mutual cooperation.

On Friday, February 3, 2023, H.E. Eliska Zigova took part in a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who thanked her for the long-term friendly relations between the two countries and invited H.E. Zigova to a longer visit to Sri Lanka with the possibility of follow-up negotiations.
