Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana visited the Czech Republic

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Mr. Tilak Marapana, visited the Czech Republic from May 15 to May 19. 2018. With his Czech counterpart and other members of the Czech Government, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and other representatives of both public and private sector, the Minister discussed the current state of bilateral relations and perspective of their further enhancement.

The main objective of the meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Stropnický was to strengthen bilateral relations at political and economic levels. Other topics of discussion were cooperation in international organizations, strengthening of bilateral contractual base, consular issues and issues of regional and global importance.

During his stay in the Czech Republic, Minister Marapana also met with Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Mr. Milan Štěch, with whom he discussed the possibilities of intensifying the cooperation of the two countries´ parliaments, including the exchange of mutual visits.

With Minister for Regional Development Klára Dostálová, he discussed topics related to travel and tourism, promotion of both countries abroad, and concepts of Smart Cities. With the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Tomáš Hüner, Minister Marapana exchanged views on ways and means to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Both Ministers also assessed the contractual base of bilateral relations in the economic field.


Meeting with Czech Chamber of Commerce


Minister Marapana was also received by the Mayor of Prague Ms Adriana Krnáčová. The Minister also attended a working breakfast with the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic and representatives of several Czech companies. During the meeting, perspectives for mutual cooperation at B2B level were assessed. A visit to the Liberec Region was also part of the Minister's visit to the Czech Republic where he interacted with representatives of company Preciosa. The minister also visited the Prague Zoo, where he examined the elephant pavilion with the elephants imported from Sri Lanka.
