Embassy organized Round Table on Post-Covid Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Karnataka

Date: 02 September 2020

Coronavirus hasn´t changed our efforts to strengthen existing business ties and search for new business partnerships between Czech and Indian entities. Example is a virtual round table, which was jointly prepared on September 2, 2020 by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi and Ernst & Young in cooperation with the Government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. Participants were honored by presence of Martina Tauberová, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for the EU and Foreign Trade, Gaurav Gupta, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Commerce and Industries, Government of Karnataka and Ambassador Milan Hovorka. The main purpose of this successful event was the networking of companies in the field of technical subjects, especially mechanical engineering and machine tools, pressing and forming machines during the restart of business and investment activities in the post-covid period. The round table was the first from a series of major events organized by our Embassy during September and October 2020 as part of the "Action Plan for Economic Diplomacy during COVID-19".

Mr. Libor Musil, Vice President of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Crafts of the Czech Republic, Commissioner for Industrial Development from Karnataka, Mrs. Gunjan Krishna, and more than a dozen representatives of companies on the Czech and Indian sides also shared their experiences and opinions. Virtually more than two dozen other entrepreneurs were present. Some of the names are Fermat, Gearspect, Investa, LIKO-S, Škoda Machine Tool, VH Services or Zetor. On the Indian side, important managers of companies were also present such as Bharat Fitz Werner Pvt. Ltd, Bosch India, ThysenKrupp Aerospace, or the largest manufacturer of tillers VST Tillers Tractors Ltd.

Karnataka is one of the most important states in India for Czech business, trade and investment. The industrial profile of this state is also similar to sectors where the Czech Republic has export potential – i. e., engineering, machine tools, the automotive industry, but also the textile and other sectors. At the same time, Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic and the Czech Trade foreign office are also present in Bangalore.  The Embassy of the Czech Republic, therefore, organized a Round table on Post-Covid Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Karnataka, with the intention to stimulate trade ties even during the coronavirus pandemic, when physical travel is severely restricted and most events are virtual. We will continue to support other sectors too through our “Action Plan for Economic Diplomacy during COVID-19.
