Czech Embassy Supported Grande Finale of EURAXESS Science Slam

The grand finale of the popular-scientific competition EURAXESS Science Slam took place on December 12, 2020.  Ambassador Milan Hovorka welcomed the guests of virtual event as this year the Czech Republic participated in the entire competition from the first round as a partner country. Four gifted young researchers from India advanced to the final, which took place in a virtual form, and they presented themselves to the general public but also to the jury, which also consisted of Economic and Commercial Counsellor of our Embassy, ​​dealing with scientific diplomacy, Mr. Milan Dostál. This two-hour program aimed to promote cooperation and mobility between young researchers from India and the European Union.  In the end, the winner of this year´s  edition was not only one participant, but even two! So good was this year's slam. Winners received from Ambassador Milan Hovorka the first prize, a return ticket to Europe and a visit to a European research institute of their choice. Congratulations to the winners, Samuya Silori and Rohan Sarkar!
 

What is a Science Slam?

 

A science slam is a scientific talk where researchers compete to present their work in front of a non-expert audience. The slam is a way to show the engaging and fascinating side of research to the wider public.

During the two-hour program of the grand final on Saturday, December 12, the finalists presented themselves to the general public with  aim to promote their research and generally cooperation and mobility between young researchers from India and the European Union,  Thanks to the increasing quality (this is already the eighth edition), the winner of the "Science Slam" was not only one participant, but even two!  The first prize was consequently received from Ambassador Milan Hovorka during the ceremony. This was a return ticket to Europe and a visit to a European research institute of the winners' choice.
