India-Europe Conference

To mark the 15th anniversary of accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union, the Embassy of the Czech Republic showcased  opportunities for economic, tourism and education cooperation during the exhibition and conference organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the title “Strengthening India-Europe Economic Relations: Opportunities and Way Forward” on Friday 5 April 2019 at PHD House in New Delhi.

As EU has been one of the largest investors in India, the conference organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry was focused on strong economic relations between India and EU and how to strengthen this relationship further.

The conference targeted particularly the Central and Eastern Europe region and the Czech Republic was among the participating countries. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Anju Kumar, Joint Secretary, Central Europe Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and H.E. Mr. Tomasz Kozlowski, Ambassador of the EU in India. The topic of discussion was “India in EU: Opportunities, Challenges and Success Stories”. During the discussion opportunities were showcased for economic, tourism and education cooperation and various aspects of business were also discussed to maintain the decorum of the partnership and relation between India and the European countries.

The endeavour was to provide a platform to the industry stakeholders, policymakers and researchers to deliberate on the substantial potential for bilateral economic cooperation between India and EU as well as to highlight the success stories and practical aspects of doing business with the EU and India in potential varied sectors

Trade in goods between the EU and India almost doubled in the last decade. Trade in services between EU and India increased from 23 billion euros in 2010 to 29 billion euros in 2016 bringing the attraction of the Indian IT and BPO companies towards the EU member states like the Czech Republic.

The conference opened opportunities for unleashing new possibilities of partnering, covering some key sectors such as logistics, retail, healthcare, automobiles and ancillaries, food processing, tourism etc. and will also highlight various initiatives undertaken by EU and India to promote their partnership.
