ŠKODA Unveiled New Car for India

As part of the India 2.0 project, a new concept study of the upcoming ŠKODA SUV model designed exclusively for the Indian market called “Vision IN” was presented in Delhi. The spectacular event for journalists from India, the Czech Republic and other countries were attended by members of the Board of Directors of ŠKODA AUTO headed by its chairman Mr. Bernhard Mayer. Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India H. E. Milan Hovorka was also present. The car was presented to the public before the official world premiere at the Auto Expo 2020 which was held from 5th to 12th February 2020 in Delhi. The Ambassador also visited the automobile stand at the fair and supported ŠKODA AUTO which became coordinator of all Volkswagen Group operations in India.

The ŠKODA Vision IN concept study has features like distinctive radiator grille and a crystal glass frame. The two-piece headlamps give the car an impressive look. Design elements referring to the use of crystal are also present in the interior, for example on the gear selector button in the centre console and also in the form of a crystal on the dashboard.

Vision IN concept study will be the first vehicle based on the modular platform MQB-A0-IN. Several different models of ŠKODA and Volkswagen will be developed on this platform. The Vision IN was introduced with a 1.5 kW 110 kW engine.

Within the INDIA 2.0 project, ŠKODA AUTO coordinates all activities of the entire Volkswagen Group in India. CEO of ŠKODA AUTO India Mr. Gurpratap Boparai took over the management of the newly merged ŠKODA AUTO VOLKSWAGEN INDIA Pvt. Ltd.

In January last year, in the presence of Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš, a new technology centre was opened in Pune, where car models for the Indian market are being developed. This step was part of an ambitious investment project that foresees an investment of EUR 1 billion in the technology development, manufacturing and distribution network development of the Volkswagen Group in India.

H. E. Milan Hovorka commented: “It was a pleasure and honour to personally support this grand presentation of the new ŠKODA concept study because I am also representing the country where the ŠKODA brand was born. I can only confirm that the ŠKODA brand has an excellent sound in India. In addition, ŠKODA AUTO fully identifies itself with the Czech Republic and I am glad that the partnership with the Embassy can contribute to building ŠKODA brand in India”.
