The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Delhi, together with Investment and Business Development Agency CzechInvest, presented the Czech Republic as a technology based and innovation-oriented economy, as a Country For The Future in accordance with Innovation Strategy of the Czech Republic  2019 - 2030. CEO of CzechInvest Mr. Patrik Reichl was acompanied by several companies from the Czech innovation ecosystem - from start-ups, technology development and innovation firms to the research institution. The program took place from 11th to 15th of November 2019 in Delhi and in the Technology and Business Center of India, Bangalore.

The program was attended by Czech companies ComAp, Kiwi.com, LIKO-S, NANOTEC System, PiktoDigital, PRAGOTHERM and SYNETECH, together with the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Czech start-up scene was also represented by CzechInvest, which is responsible for the pillar of the Innovation Strategy - National startup and spin-off environment, and covers several incubation and acceleration programs that significantly stimulate the Czech innovation ecosystem and its international cooperation.

During the program, a delegation led by Ambassador Milan Hovorka visited Bengaluru, also known as a place where all major technology companies are concentrated in the Indian subcontinent. The delegation had the opportunity to interact with important representatives of local government and political representatives. A discussion on possible support for incoming companies took place at the headquarters of InvestKarnataka, the state organization responsible for supporting foreign direct investment in the state state of Karnataka.

Accelerating Business Xpo 2019

Business contacts helped to connect our embassy during a seminar that we organized on Monday 11th of November in cooperation with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, where Czech participants had the opportunity to present themselves not only to members of the Chamber but also to invited business delegates. The prominent guests of the local business scene were then invited to a joint dinner organized by the Embassy at the Radisson Blu Atrium.

Another major event in which the Czech Republic presented itself as Country for The Future was the Accelerating Business Xpo 2019 conference, organized by the Indian SME Forum in cooperation with Intel, and where the Czech Republic and mission participants had a dedicated block for the promotion to large audience. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Delhi in cooperation with the CzechTrade regional office also provided an information desk at this conference, where visitors could learn about the business and investment environment in the Czech Republic. This event has also received considerable media attention.

A highlight of the program was the meeting with the management of the technological giant Infosys, which also has a significant presence in Brno among 50 branches worldwide. At the end of the program, a tour in the campus was also organized, with 22,000 technologists and innovators working mainly in information services.

After moving to Delhi, the Czech Republic, through CzechInvest, participated for the first time in the EU-India Innovation Partnership, which takes place twice a year, linking the top 10 incubators on each side. At the same time, some B2B meetings were held at the embassy, tailored to the needs of companies. The Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic received support at a joint meeting at the Department of Biotechnology and the company NANOTEC System, which deals with the development and application of photocatalytic protective coatings, at the Archeological Survey of India.

The dynamically developing city of Gurugram on the outskirts of Delhi is home to many technology-oriented companies as well as interesting incubators. One of them, HARTRON, promoted and supported by state of Haryana, visited the delegation to see the labs where local start-ups are looking for new solutions. Interconnection with other incubators, government representatives and local innovators took place during the evening cocktail organized by the Delegation of the European Union, to which Czech participants in the technology mission were also invited.

An important point of the entire program was the roundtable meeting session with InvestIndia, Indian governmental agency with which has signed CzechInvest a Memorandum of Understanding and which is also a long-term partner of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Delhi during many activities in India and the Czech Republic. During talks with Vice President Madhumitha Ramanathan, CEO Patrik Reichl discussed a number of concrete and very progressive ideas that will contribute to an even deeper collaboration between the two major agencies and support not only large investors but also SMEs seeking entry to the Indian market. Invited representatives of the Ministry of Textiles and other sectors had the opportunity to learn more about the technologies that Czech companies are preparing to deliver to the Indian market.

The focus on connecting Czech and Indian companies during the mission was very strong during the afternoon program on Thursday, November 14, when the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Delhi organized a presentation seminar in cooperation with the BEGIN think tank. The event was concluded by B2B meetings and an evening networking cocktail.
