Blue Card Application

You have to submit the application personally at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi. Previous booking of appointment is requested.

General information

The Blue Card is a residential status designed for a long-term stay involving the performance of a highly skilled job (§ 42i of the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals). The Blue Card entitles a foreign national to stay and perform a job, i.e. the foreign national does not need a separate work permit.

Duly completed university education or higher vocational education, the duration of which was at least 3 years, is deemed to be a high level of skills.

The Blue Card application requirements are as follows:

  1. travel document,

  2. a document confirming that accommodation has been ensured for the period of stay in the Czech Republic,

  3. 1 photo,

  4. a contract of employment or pre-employment contract for the performance of a job requiring a high level of skills for a term of at least six months and for the weekly working hours defined by law; the contract must also contain the amount of the agreed gross monthly or annual salary equal to at least 1.5 times the average gross annual salary stated in an announcement of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA),

  5. documents confirming the high level of skills (documents on attained education) – in justified cases, particularly if reasonable doubt exists as to whether you have the required education or whether your education is appropriate for the nature of employment, an administrative autority will request to prove and submit a document certifying that your foreign education has been recognised by the relevant authority of the CR,

  6. if it is a case of a regulated job, then a document confirming the compliance with the conditions for performing such a job is required (Note: The Ministry will make a decision on the EU Blue Card after the relevant recognition authority issues its opinion statement.),

  7. if prior to filing for a Blue Card in the CR you were residing in the CR  as a holder of a Blue Card issued by another EU member state, you are obliged to present proof of the total monthly income of your family (in case of family unification),

  8. prior to receiving a long-term visa for the purpose of receiving a long-term residence permit – Blue Card, you are obliged to present proof of travel medical insurance for the period from entering the CR until the day you fall under public health insurance, and, at the same time, proof of having paid the insurance fee stated on the proof of travel medical insurance.

  9. an extract from the Penal Register record issued by the state of which you are a citizen (issued by the Passport Office in case of India). You are also requested to submit an extract from the Penal Register record issued by the states in which you have had residence for over 6 months in its summary in the last 3 years. The extract from the Penal Register record may be replaced by an affidavit, if the given state does not issue such a document. The obligation to submit an extract from the Penal Register record does not relate to a foreign national under 15 years old.

  10. application fee.

You have to always submit originals or official copies of the documents. Travel document, document confirming the purpose of stay shall be submitted in original. Certified copy is not sufficient for this purpose.

All documents submitted in a foreign language must be in original and with an officially certified translation into the Czech language (the applicants are required to arrange the official translation via an official translator, the list is available here: https://seznat.justice.cz/). The required documents to be submitted with the application cannot be older than 180 days, except for the foreign national's travel document and photograph if it corresponds to his/her true and actual appearance.

Foreign public documents must be supported by a higher verification (Apostille in case of India, superlegalization in case of Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal or Sri Lanka). Superlegalization is provided by the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

Moreover, applicants shall also submit copies of all above-mentioned documents.

Processing time of Blue Card applications

The Act on Residence of Foreign Nationals provides a period of 90 days from the date of application inside the CR, during which the Ministry of Interior is to decide on your application. If proceedings are interrupted, the period for issuing a decision does not run. This period does not run or is extended also in other cases stipulated by law.

How to book an appointment

Citizens of India, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal and residents residing legally and continously for at least two years in the mentioned countries have to apply for appointment date via e-mail ID newdelhi.longterm@mzv.gov.cz The subject of the e-mail requesting an appointment has to contain the applicant´s passport number (if applicable, the letters of the passport number has to be written IN CAPITALS) and a remark "Blue Card". The email must contain the following identification information about the applicant (attachment max 10 MB):

  1. first name and surname
  2. passport number
  3. the Vacancy No.
  4. e-mail
  5. attachment: scan of the passport data page (in the pdf  format)
  6. attachment: scan of the document proving the travel purpose ( complete and signed employment contract)
