Celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII in India

On May 7, 2015, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II Embassies of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in Delhi organized a cultural event for members of the diplomatic circles, academia, students of history and European studies, Czech compatriots, Indian analysts and members of the business community. Invited guests listened to a brief historical lecture about the WWII presented by defense attaché of the Embassy of the Czech Republic col. Antonín Prokeš. Historical excursion was followed by a screening of the thematic film "All My Loved Ones" and by the national dishes prepared jointly by the two embassies.

Event organized by the Ambassadors of the Czech Republic and Slovakia M. Stašek and Ž. Bertok brought together diplomats, historians, students, expatriate community and other invited guests for whom the Embassies organized a lecture about crucial moments of the WWII and main lines of the German expansion and the subsequent liberation of Europe from Nazism. The lecture also provoked an interesting discussion on the effects of the WWII, which revealed a continued sensitivity of the tragic events.

The historical lecture was followed by a film from Czech-Slovak-Polish production "All My Loved Ones" whose story begins a year before the outbreak of WW II immediately after the signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938. The film depicts the fate of a Jewish family Silberstein and blends in historical figure of Nicholas Winton whose life story about the rescue of 669 Jewish children still resonates as a story of extraordinary human braveness.

Film of the year 1999 was directed by Matej Mináč and features stars of both Czech and Slovak cinema such as Josef Abrhám, Jiří Bartoška, Libuše Šafránková, Marián Labuda, Tereza Brodská, Jiři Lábus and others.
