The event was intended to remember and celebrate the extraordinary life and work of an acclaimed Czech Jewish writer, survivor and greatest novelists of the Holocaust, renowned screenwriter, teacher and journalist, humanist, activist and democrat, Arnošt Lustig through discussion with his daughter, Eva Lustigová, and his friend, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, noted poet, anthologist and literary critic.

Ambassador was also grateful to Eva Lustigová for her inspiring and authentic reflections of Arnošt Lustig, and recalled his daughter´s special relationship with India, that made his diplomatic mission even more rewarding.  

In his welcome speech, Ambassador Milan Hovorka recalled that Arnošt Lustig was a Lifetime Achievement Award Laureate of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, recipient of the Franz Kafka Prize, B'nai B'rith Award, American Jewish National Awards, Emmy and other prestigious international prizes, including the Nobel Prize nominations for literature. Ambassador was grateful to the writer for sharing his harrowing experience and for touching so many people across the globe with his words and testimony.

During the evening, two films were screened. First one was a short film "A Bite To Eat" based on adaptation of Arnošt Lustig’s short story from “Diamonds of the Night” and Arnošt Lustig’s screenplay. The second one "The Presence of Arnošt Lustig!" was made by Eva Lustigová in 2012 to commemorate her father.
