Presentation of Czech puppetry in India

On days 5 to 8 January 2017 in India, a presentation of Czech puppet theater. Its aim was not only to entertain small and large audiences, but also noted that puppetry in the Czech Republic has a centuries-old tradition, as evidenced by the fact that December 1, 2016 was the Czech and Slovak puppetry entered into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The largest cities in India are Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. In early January 2017, Bengaluru and Delhi are the cities where hosted events that recalled the Czech Republic's puppet power.


Dhaatu International Puppet Festival 2017 held in Bengaluru in which there were a number of events, among them a puppet conference, costume parade, festival of children's puppets, educational workshop art of puppetry and theater itself.

Although the festival were represented mainly by puppeteers from various parts of India, the participation of troupes from the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Egypt gave the festival an international dimension.


Czech Republic at the festival represented Pavel Vangeli a graduate of the puppet department of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, who started in the empire of puppets and then worked in the Spejbl and Hurvínek .Later he became independent and freelance to spread joy with the consummate loutkářským art not only to children and adults in the Czech Republic but in several speeches abroad.


Pavel Vangeli is himself both writer and director, but also a singer, dancer, but especially puppeteer. He can walk puppets on a string so brilliantly that viewers often leery of not living. In India, he presented his favorite performance Swinging Marionettes, which is probably the only one in the world where the puppeteer sings live swing songs for his marionettes.

Ambassador Milan Hovorka at the beginning of the performance recalled the tradition of Czech puppet cultures and after invited all present to refreshment. Children were also given sweets and right Czech crayons. Many also with Mr. Vangelio and his puppets took pics.


The kids liked best jester, devil, angel and skeleton.
