Susanna Roth Award Translation Competition 2021 – Call for Entries EXTENDED

The Embassy of the Czech Republic invites all translators from Czech to Hindi under the age of 40 to participate in the 7th edition of Susanna Roth Award International Translation Competition 2021, organized in cooperation with the Czech Centres and the Czech Literary Centre, a section of the Moravian Library. The Susanna Roth Award bears a name of the renowned Swiss Bohemist and translator Mrs Susanna Roth (1950–1997) who contributed significantly to the promotion of contemporary Czech literature abroad.

The aim of the competition is continuous support of young foreign translators and Bohemists, as well as support and dissemination of Czech literature abroad. The competition part takes place outside the territory of the Czech Republic through a foreign network of Czech Centres and Embassies of the Czech Republic.

For the first time in the history of the Susanna Roth Award International Translation Competition translations from Czech to Hindi are sought. Participants shall translate a comprehensive text of the current Czech author with a range of 20 pages from the book “URANOVA” of young Czech author Lenka Elbe.

The competition text can be downloaded HERE. The translation shall start from the words “Po deseti minutách cesty” and finished with words “Ale to teď ještě nevěděl.

Only Indian nationals below the age of 40 can participate in the competition.

The best translation from Czech to Hindi, selected by jury, will be awarded by Susanna Roth Award. The prize includes several days visit to the Czech Republic connected with active participation in a professional seminar with an accompanying program. Results will be announced by 15 May 2021 at the latest.

Organizers of the Susanna Roth Award International Translation Competition 2021 are:
Czech Centres,
Czech Literary Centre, a section of the Moravian Library, and
- Czech Embassies

Deadline:  Translations shall be sent by email to newdelhi@embassy.mzv.cz latest by 15 April 2021.

The email must have subject URANOVA (just 1 world) and must include the following:

  1. Translation of the text into Hindi in .doc format
  2. Translation of the text into Hindi in .pdf format
  3. Information about the translator (in Czech)
  4. Photograph of the translator in .jpg or .png format
  5. Scan or photo of the declaration “I hereby confirm that I am author of the attached translation from Czech to Hindi” + name, email, date and signature of the translator

An acknowledgement will be sent by the Embassy within 3 working days.
