Czech born scientist Dr. Ondřej L. Křivánek awarded by the Kavli Prize 2020 in Nanoscience

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters announced 27. May 2020 the Kavli Prize Laureates in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. This year’s Kavli Prize honours scientists whose research has transformed our understanding of the very big, the very small and the very complex. Among them is a Czech-British citizen permanently resided in the United States Mr. Ondřej L. Křivánek. 

Dr. Ondřej L. Křivánek was awarded for the realization of the first aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope (a type of transmission electron microscope in which the electron beam is focused on a small spot) with sub-ångström resolution, well suited for spatially resolved chemical analysis; obtained using a quadrupole-octuple corrector. Together with Mr. Harald Rose (Germany), Mr. Maximilian Haider (Austria) and Mr. Knut Urban (Germany), who were awarded in the same cathegory, Dr. Křivánek shares 1 million USD as the financial part of the award.
