Spring concert of Czech and Slovak music on the occasion of 100th Anniversary of the Founding of Czechoslovakia

As a part of the social events in 2018 on the occasion of 100th Anniversary of the Founding of Czechoslovakia, a harp concert of Barbora Plachá in the Residence of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Oslo was held. This event was co-organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Oslo.

On Wednesday 11th April and Thursday, April 12, 2018 a Spring concert of one of the best Czech harp artists, Barbora Plachá, who is currently studying PhD at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, took place in the Residence of the Czech Ambassador. A talented Norwegian soprano Benedikte Sofie Ribe accompanied Barbora at the concert.

Due to the great interest in the concert and the limited space possibilities, the organizers were forced to divide the event within two days. The concerts were attended by more than 100 invited guests, mainly representatives of the diplomatic corps and significant Norwegian guests on Wednesday and on Thursday the concert was dedicated to representatives of the Czech and Slovak community.

As usual, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Jaroslav Knot, together with the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, Denisa Frelichová, opened the event with the speech. Then a concert of Czech and Slovak music followed. Czech and Slovak folk songs from famous composers, performed by Barbora Plachá and Benedikte Sofie Ribe, were presented, as well as Dvořák´s Slavonic Dance and Smetana´s The Moldau, which had a great success and was awarded by a long applause from the audience.

After both concerts, visitors could enjoy refreshments from Czech cuisine including Czech beer and wine.

The organization of cultural events by both Ambassadors was appreciated especially by Czech and Slovak compatriots, who consider these events to be a very positive contribution to the reunification, as well as expression of the continuing cultural and social cohesion of the Czech and Slovak people living in Norway. A lot of visitors also appreciated the beutiful premises of the residence.
