Participation of Ambassador Pavel Hrnčíř at the 100th Anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia organized by University of Toronto

On November 7 – 9, Ambassador Pavel Hrnčíř took part in a conference titled "Making and Remaking Europe: The Czech and Slovak Contribution" at University of Toronto.

The Czech Embassy in Ottawa contributed financially to the organization of the conference and also arranged an appearance/the attendance of Professor Xavier Galmiche from the Université de Sorbonne in Paris to meet by a round table with the Czech and Slovak Diaspora.

The conference was attended, among others, by Michael Žantovský, Director of Václav Havel Library, Jiří Přibáň, political scientist at Cardiff University, James Krapfl of McGill University and other personalities.

The main part of the conference was opened by Ambassador together with Slovak Ambassador Vít Koziak. Ambassador Pavel Hrnčíř took/used this opportunity to hand over the silver commemorative medal of Jan Masaryk to the conference organizer prof. Robert Austin and to a couple Ivo and Milly Sypták, significant Toronto compatriots who contribute financially and organizationally to the activities of the Czech Diaspora in Toronto.

On the initiative of the Czech Embassy in Ottawa, the documentary film The Nagano Tapes was screened at the conference and received a positive response from the audience.
