Czech nanotechnology is helping Canada combat emissions and the spread of Covid-19

Within its efforts to support Czech nanotechnologies, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ottawa has had its building treated with FN NANO® photocatalytic coating, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also prevents the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Following the Czech Embassies in London, Budapest and Washington, the Embassy in Ottawa is another Czech mission that has employed a unique innovative nanotechnology developed by the Czech company Advanced Materials JTJ. It uses light energy to purify the air and helps suppress the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, as well as other viral and bacterial infections.

FN NANO CANADA, the Canadian representative of the technology´s manufacturer, applied a self-cleaning coating on the exterior walls of the Embassy, which will therefore be protected for many years from the deposition of dust, mold and other impurities dispersed in the air. When exposed to sunlight, the exterior walls of the Embassy treated with this technology coating will clean the air of exhaust gas emissions generated by up to eight vehicles, i.e. all passenger cars used by the Embassy staff. Thanks to this technology, the Embassy is now carbon neutral and therefore helps fight climate change.

The Embassy took the opportunity to also have the special type of paint applied on the interior walls of the entrance to the Consular Section where applicants for a new passport or visa wait to have their requests processed. The nano paint effectively catches airborne viruses and bacteria and subsequently eliminates them; it therefore cleans the air in the room. By using this technology, it is possible to effectively increase the protection of the people in the room not only from the transmission of the Covid-19 coronavirus, which is more airborne than originally thought, but also from other viral and bacterial infections.

The FN NANO® photocatalytic coating is an environmentally and economically beneficial technology, whose properties have been verified by more than a decade of experience, during which millions of m2 of surfaces have been treated worldwide. At the same time, it is only one of many Czech nanotechnologies that are conquering the world and thus fulfilling the Innovation Strategy of the Czech Republic and its brand The Czech Republic: The Country For The Future.

The Embassy in Ottawa is pleased to use this opportunity to raise awareness of Czech nanotechnologies among Canadian partners and to present the FN NANO® technology as a unique solution to the current pandemic and the prevention of any future pandemics, as well as one of the possible solutions to Canada's greenhouse gas reduction commitments.
