Visa applications temporarily suspended

In response to a global outbreak of respiratory disease (COVID-19) caused by a novel coronavirus, a State of Emergency has been proclaimed in the entire territory of the Czech Republic, with effect from March 12, 2020, until April 11, 2020. The Czech Government has the mandate to amend the end date of the State of Emergency.

Some of the consequences of the State of Emergency are impacting all Czech embassies/consulates abroad, incl. the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ottawa, effective March 14, 2020:

  • No visa applications can be filed at any Czech consulate/Embassy overseas (in person, by mail, or via a visa center).
  • All new requests for appointments (regarding long-term visa, residence permits or cards) will be disregarded and appointments will not be given.
  • Further processing of all pending visa applications and issuance of visas are temporarily suspended.

Previously issued visas are valid on the indicated dates. However, effective March 16, 2020, until the end of the State of Emergency, no foreigners are allowed to enter the Czech Republic, even when they may hold a valid visa.

Foreigners who hold a valid temporary residence permit or a valid permanent residence permit in the Czech Republic are allowed to enter the Czech Republic in this period.

Visa fees are non-refundable.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
