COVID-19: Traveling to the Czech Republic

(This article expired 29.12.2021 / 15:45.)

As of December 27, 2021, the rules for entry into the Czech Republic are tightned for foreign nationals. As from July 12, 2021, Canada is still considered as a country with a low risk of COVID-19 transmission (green country). Canadian citizens may enter the Czech Republic for any reason (return to home, tourism, travel to work or for study, family visit, etc.)

As of December 27, 2021 foreign nationals travelling to the Czech Republic have to present a negative PCR test result before the travel. This applies also for foreign nationals arriving from Canada.

This obligation applies also to vaccinated persons and persons who recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months. It applies to travels from all countries regardless of the level of risk of the COVID-19 transmission. Persons who are not vaccinated or who did not recover from COVID-19 in the last six months, have to undergo a PCR test between 5th and 7th day after arrival.

This requirement does not apply to persons vaccinated with the COVID booster shot, children under 12 and children in the age group 12-18 years who are fully vaccinated (booster shot not required). Other exceptions are specified in the protective measure of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.

There are no direct flights between Canada and the Czech Republic. Please check first with transit countries whether you will be allowed to travel to the Czech Republic and back to Canada.

Please check also in advance with your airlines and transit countries for their sanitary regulations (testing for COVID-19, vaccination, etc.)

Children under 6 years of age do not require presenting a test.

The provincial vaccination certificates from Canada are recognised by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. There is a list of recognised certificates.

Canadian passport holders are not required to obtain visas to enter the Czech Republic for a short-term non-profit stay (up to 90 days in any 180-day period within the Schengen area).

VISA SERVICES
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ottawa has resumed full visa services. For the visa requirements, please consult the chapter Visa and Consular Services  on our website.
