Ambassador attended River Festival

From 8th to 10th March, the 7th River Festival took place in the Kampong Thom Province. Such events provide an opportunity to individual provinces to present themselves to both the domestic and foreign public and to attract visitors. The importance of the event was documented by the presence of the Prime Minister Hun Sen who opened the festival. 
 

On 9 March, the Ambassador and his spouse attended the festive opening ceremony of the 7th River Festival in the Kampong Thom Province. This province is located in the central part of Cambodia and is rich in historical sites even from the pre-Angkorian era.

These events are popular in Cambodia for they provide an opportunity to individual provinces on rotational basis to present themselves to both the domestic and foreign public. To display their history, traditions, products and art. And they motivate to improve an existing infrastructure and make it possible to attract visitors.

The festival was held from 8th to 10th March. Approximately 300 stands were prepared with local products. The main theme became agro-tourism. Important components of the event were cultural and sports programmes. The second as a promotion of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, which will be hosted by Cambodia in May and June.

The opening ceremony was prestigious because in addition to the Governor of the Kampong Thom province and the Minister of Tourism, the Prime Minister Hun Sen made a speech. In his speech, he undercored the necessity of peace without which no development could be materialized.  

Only during the first two days the organizers counted up over 400 000 visitors.
