Ambassador presented award within the 49th International Children's Art Exhibition Lidice

On 13 December, based on the results of the 49th International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice, Ambassador Martin Vávra presented the 2021 Honourable Mention for a very good work of art in the medium of painting and drawing on Sotheareach Meang Sry, pupil of the Yamada School of Art in Phnom Penh.

11,213 entries from 72 countries were registered for this year's exhibition with the theme of Robot and Artificial Intelligence, and the jury awarded 952 prizes, including 79 medals to participants from abroad.

"This year´s theme of competition, chosen in close cooperation with UNESCO, was chosen in order to pay homage to excellent Czech writer and humanist Karel Čapek who used the world for the very fist time a hundred years ago in his play called R.U.R. Furthermore, we wanted to bring attention to the fact that robots and artificial intelligence do not necessarily always serve only in the name of progress, but can be also misused against the humankind,“ adds Eduard Stehlík, Director of the Lidice Memorial.

Because of the continuing pandemic, a large part of entries was created individually at home during distance education, without personal presence of teachers. Great appreciation and admiration go to all who were in the spirit for creating and working artistically.
