Children from an orphanage in Phnom Penh were delighted with a Czech fairy tale and new school backpacks

On November 6, 2022, Ambassador Martin Vávra took part in the screening of the Czech fairy tale "Even Mice Belong in Heaven" at the House of Family, an orphanage for HIV/AIDS positive children in Phnom Penh. At the same time, the embassy provided the children with promotional school backpacks.

The House of Family orphanage has existed since 2004 and is managed by the University of Health and Social Work of St. Alžběty in Bratislava, the running itself is provided by the Czech citizen Ms. Monika Nová, doctor of social work from Charles University in Prague. The orphanage is home to the first generation of children born with HIV who, after the death of their parents, ended up on the street or with relatives who themselves did not have sufficient resources for adequate care. Without treatment, children with HIV live an average of only 5-6 years, but with proper treatment, on the contrary, they can live a relatively full life. Currently, the project shelters and prepares for the future 45 children aged 6-21, in two facilities in the capital city of Phnom Penh and in the city of Sihanoukville.

A total of 33 children watched the Czech animated fairy tale " Even Mice Belong in Heaven" in Phnom Penh. After the screening, which the children rewarded with applause, the Ambassador Martin Vávra handed everyone school backpacks with the logo of the Czech Republic. The children were visibly happy with the practical gifts.
