On July 17, 2017, the EU Delegation in Phnom Penh organized a conference to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the EU's ERASMUS exchange program in cooperation with the embassies of the EU Member States and Cambodian partners. Among visitors there were more than 400 participants, students from secondary and tertiary education facilities, university leaders, professors, doctorands, researchers, and ERASMUS graduates from Cambodia. The main guest attending the conference were Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Hang Chuon Naron, representatives of the diplomatic corps and from the Cambodian administration. The event took place under high media interest.

The conference recalled the history of the development and modalities of the ERASMUS program, which since 1997 has so far offered more than 9 million participants from around the world to study or train abroad. It also emphasized the benefits of students mobility for mutual learning and deepening of education, as well as knowledge of the history, traditions and aspects of life in a different environment of other countries. Between 2005 and the present, more than 600 Cambodian students and teachers had the opportunity to participate in the ERASMUS program.

Minister Hang Chuon Naron thanked on behalf of the Cambodian Government to the EU and its Member States for the possibility to access top-level education for Cambodian citizens under significantly favorable financial conditions. He recalled his own experience with studying at the University of Lyon, France, under the ERASMUS program, and emphasized the key importance of education for the proportionate young part of the population of Cambodia.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Phnom Penh prepared for the conference the booth of the Czech Republic with information materials. In addition to publications and leaflets on the education system, the possibilities of study in the Czech Republic and info about individual universities, offered publications contained general information about the Czech Republic, its capital, sights, culture and literature were presented. Part of the documents offered to interested parties updated information on foreign development cooperation implemented by the Czech Republic in Cambodia. The offered documents were subjects of an extraordinary interest among students.
