EU Day 2016

As in previous years, in May 2016 the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Phnom Penh again participated in awareness and sport events organized by the Delegation of EU on the occasion of the Europe Day 2016.

Radio call-in-shows on EU

Ambassadors of the EU Member States and EU Delegation traditionally participated in a special broadcast on the popular Women's Radio FM 102. Mrs. Jana Gašparíková, chargé d'affaires a.i of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Kingdom of Cambodia, shared information about the Czech Republic and its activities in Cambodia and commemorated the 60th anniversary of Czech-Cambodian diplomatic relations. Listeners were also interested in the advantages and disadvantages of Czech Republic’s membership in EU, and its parallels with Cambodia's membership in ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and the presence of Czech companies in Cambodia and the challenges that face the local market.

"Europe on a Bicycle: Together for the Earth"

This year's fourth annual bike ride through the center of Phnom Penh was once again an opportunity to spread awareness about the causes and effects of climate change and sustainable approach to the environment. This year the ride took place on Saturday and was connected with the bike ride organized by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia on the occasion of Mother's Day. For safety reasons, the route has been slightly modified and did not lead immediately around the British Embassy and Embassy of the Czech Republic, however, representatives of the two embassies had the opportunity to greet the cyclists near the embassies. Compared to previous years police regulate traffic very inconsistently, and most of the route, cyclists were dodging between cars and motorbikes. All participants (4 000), comparable number as last year, finally arrived safely to the finish at the Olympic Stadium where light refreshment was waiting.
