An expert from the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague was a guest at a workshop focusing on the Agenda 2030

The main objective of the workshop "Strengthening research and education capacities through international partnerships follow-up of EU perspectives and experiences towards SDG’s" was to share the perspectives and experiences of the international organization Agrinatura - the European Alliance on Agricultural Knowledge for Development, which is hosted at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, the Czech Republic.

The goal of the workshop was to introduce participants to the high-level research and education activities implemented at European universities focused on tropical and subtropical agriculture, organic agriculture, forestry, food security and human nutrition, veterinary medicine, fisheries and related environmental sciences. The key aspects of research and education activities targeted to contribute to the Agenda 2023 and Sustainable development goals were shared as well as the practical examples of good practice and the lessons learned from various projects. Invited external speakers presented examples of running projects, for instance, the Value chain for development project. The workshop also included discussion part underlying the perspective of Cambodian partners, their experience and ideas for future cooperation.

Dr. Slámová, who is the Secretary General of Agrinatura, presented the experience of this international organisation in promoting cooperation in the field of research with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Mulkhan on Circular Economy - case study from Indonesia, a session by the Deans of the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Fisheries and Aquaculture on Research and Future Prospects for the SDGs. The afternoon programme then provided space for discussion, including opportunities for further collaboration between the universities, which have already worked together within the programme Strengthening the Capacity of Public Universities in Developing Countries in the past. Furthermore, the relevance of aquaculture and forestry in the context of the Bilateral Programme for Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic to Cambodia was discussed as well as against the interventions of other donors. Czech expertise in this respect has added value and further collaboration in this field will be mutually beneficial.
