New playgrounds for children in Kampot province

(This article expired 30.06.2020.)

In 2019, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Phnom Penh supported a construction of two children playgrounds as a part of a small scale project called „Fit for standard Community Preschool“. Both playgrounds are now part of outdoor equipment of community preschools located in Trapeing Chrab and Andong Chimeun villages of Kampot province. By these activities, the Czech Republic followed up on a successful project from 2018, in which the buildings of both kindergartens were built. Due to the newly built facilities, parents can now send their children to preschools that are adequately equipped for teaching and lead by skilled teachers focusing on children stimulation and development.

Besides playgrounds, the preschools were also equipped and new storerooms were built. Activities included also decoration of buildings and the walls that have aesthetic and educational meaning. Thus, small children can learn from the paintings e.g. how to wash their hands properly in newly built washrooms.

An important component of the project was capacity building of pedagogical staff from both preschools. Teachers participated in a specific training aiming at pedagogy techniques and educational games leading to children stimulation and development.

Due to an intensive cooperation of the project implementer – the NGO Planète Enfants et Développement with local communities and authorities resulting to improvement of preschools infrastructure and capacity building of teachers, both preschools successfully underwent evaluation from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. This evaluation is an important first step for a community preschool to obtain a higher status of a state preschool.
