Ambassador met with Cambodian scholarship awardees before the start of the academic year

The Ambassador met with 8 out of 14 scholarship awardees who will be starting their studies at Czech Universities at the beginning of the academic year 2022/2023. The Ambassador spoke with the students about their experiences studying abroad so far, their plans for the future and the realities of life in the Czech Republic.

Students also raised questions about practical aspects of studying and living in the Czech Republic or other administrative tasks after arrival.

In the coming academic year, the Cambodian students will be studying for their master's degrees at following universities in Prague: University of Economics, Czech University of Agriculture, Charles University, Czech Technical University, University of Chemistry and Technology and then Mendel University in Brno and Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The fields of study supported by the scholarships include, in particular, economics, engineering and agriculture. The current scholarship awardees will study, for example, Economics and Management, Public Finance, Information Systems Management or Sustainability and Environmental Engineering.

The Czech government renewed the possibility of admitting Cambodian students to study at Czech universities in the mid-1990s. Thus, seventy more Cambodian students have joined the significant number of Cambodian university graduates studying in the former Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and 1980s in the modern history of the Czech Republic. The provision of government scholarships is one of the instruments through which the Czech Republic supports Cambodia, which is a priority partner country for development cooperation.
