(This article expired 31.01.2022.)

In 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic supported the prevention of Covid-19 in Cambodia through a humanitarian project titled “Strengthening preparedness and capacity of Cambodian public health facilities to cope with Covid-19”. The project provided personal protective equipment and specialized medical devices to the Cambodian National Pediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh and to the Public Healthcare Institutions in Kampong Chhnang province. This helped to increase overall capacities of the hospitals during the pandemic.

In connection with the Czech Republic´s  focus  on the health sector in Kampong Chhnang province, the project targeted the three main hospitals in Kampong Chhnang province (Kampong Chhang Provincial Hospital, Kampong Tralach Referral Hospital, and Baribour Referral Hospital) and the National Pediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh.

The project implemented by the non-governmental organization Caritas Czech Republic consisted of several activities including delivery of personal protection equipment and medical devices, capacity building on Covid-19 patient care and guideline to the targeted key public hospitals and healthcare workers, who would transfer this knowledge to the health centers in their geographical administration.

The trainings for key hospital staff ensured fast integration of supplied equipment into the treatment process. All project activities help to deepen effective and quality care during the pandemic in targeted hospitals.

This project was supported as a part of the official Humanitarian Aid program of the Czech Republic.
