Cambodia: World Economic Forum on ASEAN

Cambodia hosted the World Economic Forum on ASEAN on 10-12 December 2017. Main topic of the meeting: Youth, Technology and Growth; Securing ASEAN's Digital and Demographic Dividends. The Forum reaffirmed the priority need for co-ordinated co-operation in implementing the inclusive development vision of this grouping of countries, with an emphasis on building infrastructure to improve accessibility, entrepreneurship and growth.

Around 700 delegates from 40 countries took part in the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF-ASEAN) in Phnom Penh. Cambodia hosted an event of similar size for the first time in history.

In addition to the top officials of the Cambodian administration, the President of the Philippines (ASEAN Chair 2017) and the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos also took part. 450 business leaders represented more than 15 industrial sectors, senior executives and young delegates were also well represented.

The main consensus of the delegates of the Forum was on the need for a coordinated development of infrastructure networks to ensure the availability and interconnectivity of the region on a national and international scale. Accessibility and connectivity are intended to support ASEAN not only to further increase business activity and economic growth, but also to the satisfaction and comfort of the region's population and tourism. The term "multilateral connectivity" hides the availability of people, goods, services, including financial, as well as the movement of "invisible values", ie technological ideas and innovations, cultural and artistic works etc.
