Czech cultural success in the famous Market Theatre in Johannesburg

The Czech Republic scored an extraordinary success in South Africa. The Czech Spitfire Company presented 10 performances of The Voice of Anne Frank in the Market Theatre in Johannesburg between 20 – 29 August, 2014.

The performances were financially supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria and Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

The Voice of Anne Frank, a contemporary dance theatre piece, is based on the well-known fate of German Jewish girl Anne Frank (born 12 June, 1929 in Frankfurt am Mein, died in March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp). Anne kept a diary while she and her family were hiding in Amsterdam. The Voice of Anne Frank presents the joy and distress of a 13-year-old girl, forced to live in hiding in the rear part of a house. The personality of Anne Frank is performed in an original and inspiring manner by Miřenka Čechová.

All shows were almost sold out, and the Spitfire Company was even asked for one extra show. The first performance was followed by an informal reception.

The show was very well received by South African media (see for example http://www.artlink.co.za/news_article.htm?contentID=36218 and https://robynsassenmyview.wordpress.com/tag/the-voice-of-anne-frank/).

The Spitfire Company presented the Voice of Anne Frank with huge success also at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2013.
