Dvořák's Slavonic Dances scored a success in South Africa

From 17 to 20 October 2014 a series of piano concerts of Mrs. Michaela Malá and Mr. Lukáš Klánský was organised in Cape Town, Muizenberg and Johannesburg, supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria.

Both accomplished pianists studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague together and are bonded by a great friendship. Mrs. Michaela Malá received a number of national and international awards. Since 2013 she has been living in Cape Town, established her own piano school, the Music Room, and cooperates with local chamber musicians. Mr. Lukáš Klánský is a laureate of many competitions. He is not only highly acclaimed soloist, but performs regularly with violinist Mr. Jan Mráček, a laureate of the International Competition Prague Spring, cellist Mr. Ivan Vokáč, with violinist Václav Hudeček and with Pražák Quartet.

At all concerts they performed the Slavonic Dances by Antonín Dvořák in the Piano Duet version. At the concert in the German International School in Cape Town, which was organised by Mrs. Alice Zidek and her Musica Mundi, they were played in their totality, complemented also with short pieces by Bedřich Smetana. At the Casa Labia Cultural Centre in Muizenberg and in the Da Capo Concert Chamber in Randburg a selection was performed. The audience received with standing ovations not only the Dvořák's powerful music, but also the passionate interpretation.

On 21 October Mrs. Michaela Malá and Mr. Lukáš Klánský performed also with success at the National Day Reception in Pretoria.

The concerts were organised in the framework of 2014 Year of Czech Music.
