A worship service commemorating Jan Hus took place in Johannesburg

In the church of the Moravian Church in South Africa in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, took place on 5 July 2015 a worship service commemorating of Jan Hus. It recalled the life of Mr. Hus on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of his death on 6 July 1415.

It was served by Bishop S. N. N. Ngqakayi. President of the Moravian Church in South Africa Rev. Brian Abrahams, Ambassador of the Czech Republic Blanka Fajkusová and Consul Radek Nedvěd attended the service, together with about 120 believers, who had later the opportunity to see the exhibition „Jan Hus in 1415 and 600 years“, which was displayed in the church. Two days earlier the service was preceded by another event recalling Jan Hus: a gala diner in the Indaba hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg. The diner was attended also by the Head of the Delegation of the European Union in South Africa Roeland van de Geer and Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy Herbert Beck. These events followed the commemorations of the Jan Hus anniversary organised by the Moravian Church and Embassy of the Czech Republic on various places in the country earlier this year.
