Call for Proposal for Local Small Scale Projects 2019

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria is pleased to launch its annual call for proposals for the Small Scale Development Projects for 2019. The call concerns all countries accredited to the Embassy: South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mauritius. Deadline for the first call for submitting complete proposals is 15 of September 2018.

These projects are complementary to the large multiple-year projects implemented by the Czech Development Agency (CzDA) and are important component of the Czech Republic Development Cooperation.

The projects should preferably target in the sectors of Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Water Supply and Satination Systems to support sustainable economic growth and sustainable management of natural resources.

Funding provided by the Czech Republic for each project ranges between 200 000 CZK (approx. 8 000 EUR) to maximum limit 500 000 CZK (approx. 20 000 EUR). Grants are paid in convertible marks on the basis of the amount stated in the CZK form and according to the course used by the Embassy at the time of grant disbursement. Therefore, the applicant must take into account that the amount can be slightly different from the amount given in the application form.

Co-funding from the applicant or other sources is most welcomed. Overhead costs are to be covered by the applicant. Total sum of personal and travel costs, eventually insurance, vaccination and alike must not exceed 25% of total budget of the project.

Who is Eligible to Submit the Proposal: 

Only organizations that can demonstrate their local independent legal status (translated into English) can submit proposal of the project:

  • local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations,
  • local academic institutions working on local projects,
  • international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities,
  • municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects.

The majority of the projects funding is to be directed toward local civil society organizations (including non-governmental organizations) and other institutions working at the local level. Other entities, such as international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional organizations can be eligible for a contribution, provided that they are working with local partners and on local projects. Similarly, municipal, regional or national government institutions may receive the funding, provided that their projects are essentially local in nature.

Eligible countries: South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mauritius

Period for implementation of the project: March - October 2019

Proposal Submission:

All proposals including:

  1. 2x copies of completed Identification Form (XLS, 67 KB) - first copy should be scanned with stamp and signature in pdf format, another copy in excel format
  2. copy of the document proving the applicant´s legal status in case of non-public institution and
  3. copy of the document confirming the authorization of the contact person - project manager to act on behalf of the institution and to sign the Identification Form (it should be delivered in English language, hand-writting is not acceptable) and
  4. ID document of the project manager

Deadline for the first call for submitting proposals is 15 of September 2018. Successful applicants should sign the Contract with the Embassy of the Czech Republic, probably in February/March 2019.
