CoroVent: Czech open-source ventilator for COVID-19 patients

Swift reaction of numerous Czech stakeholders resulted in a successful collaboration introducing an open-source lung ventilator as a response the current COVID-19 pandemic. Laboratory tests were conducted and 500 pcs for the Czech Republic should be delivered by mid April. Designs as well as information regarding the temporary free licensing is already publicly available. The design takes in consideration widely accepted specifications and will comply with recommendations of EU Commission.

CoroVent came to life as a collaboration between the Czech tech industry, educational institutions, government and average citizens, crowdsourcing and organizing efforts to fight the COVID-19 epidemic.

The final prototype of the ventilator has been already laboratory tested and it currently finds itself in the process of certification which should be finalised within next few days, delivering the first batch of 500 pcs for the Czech Republic by mid April.

From the onset, the collaboration is conducted under the understanding that the design and any learnings are open source and as such are to be freely licensed around the world should the need arise. Therefore, all the designs as well as more information regarding the temporary free license are available on the website below.

As progress is made there will be further documents and materials published that should assist anyone who has the basic infrastructure such as engineers, legal backing, government permits and funding in place. Once the necessary infrastructure is established, CoroVent initiative vouches to do their very best to provide necessary support to those who are interested.

Focus is made on widely available industrial parts that are stocked by manufacturers and distributors around the world. Design is can be modified to suit various local needs.

During the design process, new information, such as the UK released instructions were taken into consideration. The device will fully comply with EU Commission Recommendation.
