Warning: changes in travelling to South Africa!

Please note that in May 2014 new immigration rules tightening travelling in and out of South Africa were introduced.

The Czech passport holders travelling to South Africa for the purpose of tourism or business do not need a visa for their short-term stay in the country for up to 90 days. If travelling to South Africa for other purpose please contact the respective South African Embassy for clarifying if you need a visa or not.

According to the new rules, time spent in other states (for example neighbouring countries) during the validity of the visa free stay permit in South Africa is counted into the 90 days period. If overstaying, the traveller will be declared an undesirable person and banned from entering South Africa for a period from one to five years.

In case you want to prolong your 90 days stay in South Africa, you must submit the application in South Africa not later than 60 days before the expiry of the 90 days stay permit.

New rules on the travel of minors were introduced.

Parents travelling with a child must produce an unabridged birth certificate (an original or a certified copy) of the child reflecting the particulars of both parents of the child. If the birth certificate is in Czech language, a certified translation into English must be presented. In case one parent is travelling with a child, he or she must produce a consent in the form of an affidavit from the other parent registered as a parent on the birth certificate of the child authorising him or her to enter into or depart from South Africa with the child and a copy of that parent´s passport. Contacts, namely telephone, should be included. Where applicable, a court order granting full parental responsibilities and rights or legal guardianship in respect of the child, if he or she is the parent or legal guardian of the child; or a death certificate of the other parent registered as a parent of the child on the birth certificate will be required. In case a minor is travelling without parents, an official invitation letter, a copy of the passport and contacts of the person responsible for the minor in South Africa will be required in addition to the above mentioned affidavits.

All the mentioned documents must be originals or certified copies and, if they are in Czech, a certified translation into English must be produced.

In the case a minor does have dual citizenship and the birth certificate and/or other above mentioned documents of the other state are in English, they can be used for the travel of the minor as well.

The immigration rules concerning the travel of minors come fully into force from 1 June 2015. However, we recommend adhering to them even in the period preceding their applicability and even when transiting through South Africa.

The passport must have at least two unused pages. We recommend that the period of validity of a passport is not less than 90 days after the foreigner's intended date of departure from the South Africa.

Notice: For binding information on the immigration rules contact South African Embassies abroad or the Department of Home Affairs when staying in South Africa.
