Czech Development Project for Down Syndrome Youth

On October 30, 2017 a Czech development project supporting social inclusion of young people with Down syndrome was solemnly concluded by a photo exhibition titled “Beauty through Photographs” in the Kosovo National Museum in Pristina. All art works - prints of photos on various materials were produced by ten students who attended a training in photography and its processing within a project managed by photographer Ridvan Slivova (NGO PLUS) in cooperation with NGO Down Syndrome Kosova and financed by the Czech Government. All the prints were on sale to raise funds for Down syndrome community in Kosovo. The project is a follow up of the previous Czech project from 2012 when the first ten students with Down syndrome were trained. The event was attended by Former President Atifete Jahjaga who congratulated each trainee on her/his achievements.

Mr. Ridvan Slivova commented the project: “During the training I found very talented young people with Down syndrome. Some of them showed extraordinary talent in doing and designing photography being ready to do this work professionally for whole of their life”.

Head of the NGO Down Syndrome Kosova Mrs. Sebahate Beqiri said: “The project enables our young members full integration in to the society and makes them feel proud of their achievements because through their work we are going to get financial source to enable our services for people with Down syndrome”.

Czech Ambassador Ivo Silhavy appreciated the outcome of the project: “Myself being a passionate photographer seeing those art works here - there is no other way than being amazed. I can see here a former trainee from our previous project Ms. Linda Dibra who got awarded for her photo in #InstaKosova nationwide photo competition. Similar results are expected from others as well”.
