Czech Music in Pristina

On February 29, 2016 the Symphony Orchestra of Kosovo Philharmony performed a concert in the overcrowded Red Hall in Pristina, directed by an eminent French conductor Nathalie Marin. The performance of compositions by Hector Berlioz, Jiří Pauer and Richard Strauss attracted an extraordinary interest of listeners.

Pauer’s Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra was performed by a young Kosovo soloist Patris Berisha. Czech composer Jiří Pauer (1919-2007) was a student of Alois Hába, a famous Czech composer. During his life, Pauer composed about 150 opus numbers infusing with many genres. Opera “Zuzana Vojířová” and opera for children “The Garrulous Snail” belong among his most successful works. More than half of his works for the theatre were intended for young audiences.

Nathalie Marin is a resident conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Kosovo Philharmony since January 2016. Previously she worked in other countries in Europe and in Latin America.
