EU 60

On March 27, 2017 the EU Office in Pristina and Embassy of Italy in Pristina organized a solemn evening to mark the 60th anniversary of the signature of the Rome Treaties in the National Library of Kosovo in Pristina. Speeches by the Head of EU Office/EU Special Representative Nataliya Apostolova, Italian Ambassador Piero Cristoforo Sardi and Kosovo Minister for EU integration Mimoza Ahmetaj were followed by launching of an exhibition on EU history.

On this occasion, EUSR Nataliya Apostolova in her speech reminded the guests of “the heroic act of the Union's founding fathers who had a strength to come together only a decade after a brutal war around the idea of peace, democracy and solidarity in Europe – the idea that resonates equally strongly today as it did six decades ago.” She emphasized “how visionary the founders were, and how much Europe has decided to embrace the values of solidarity, democracy, rule of law, freedom and human rights.”

EUSR Apostolova addressed current challenges we face by words: “We have to make sure that the vision and work of the EU's founding fathers lives on.”
