Europe Day – The Times They Are A-Changin´

A photo exhibition of Oldřich Škácha, titled „The Times They Are A-Changin´“, was ceremonially launched on May 9, 2016 at Information and Cultural EU Centre in Pristina as a part of the Europe Day celebration. The exhibition is organized by Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pristina in cooperation with EU Office/EUSR in Kosovo. Exhibit of black and white photos introducing Václav Havel as a dissident, as a president and as a citizen is a part of the initiative Havel@80 that has been organized by NGO Václav Havel Library, NGO Art for Amnesty – Amnesty International, and Václav Havel Library Foundation.

In context of the exhibition’s title Ambassador Šilhavý in his opening speech reminded the transience of human life, and he also stressed the each of us personal responsibility for his/her actions. Legacy of Václav Havel may be an inspiration for us in fulfilling our lives with believe and humbleness. EUSR Samuel Žbogar in his address emphasized the importance of united and stable Europe, respecting democratic standards. In this context Žbogar mentioned the greatness of Václav Havel’s legacy, and his indelible contribution to the expansion of democratic values, not only in Europe but throughout the world. According to Žbogar Kosovo is a member of European “Family” which has been proved by the progress Kosovo has been able to achieve since 2008. Minister Çollaku thanked all EU Member States who supported the door opening to visa liberalization regime for Kosovo. Çollaku also declared Kosovo’s determination to make further progress in the direction towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

The most prominent guests included President Hashim Thaçi, Minister for European Integration Bekim Çollaku, Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning Ferid Agani, leader of the opposition party AAK Ramush Haradinaj, former President Fatmir Sejdiu, Commander of KFOR Mission General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Jean-Claude Schlumberger, representatives of cultural life, number of Heads of Missions accredited in Kosovo and many others.

Immediately after visiting the vernissage President Thaçi posted on his Facebook page that he had been happy to join the exhibition on Europe Day celebration, and he praised Václav Havel´s role in the fight against communism.

As a part of the vernissage Nikon F4 - personal camera of Oldřich Škácha was exhibited. The exhibition has been realized thanks to the sponsorship of Ekoinvest company. The exhibition is going to stay at EU Information and Cultural Center in Pristina until the end of May.
