European Summer Music Academy 2017 - Final Concerts

The 6th European Summer Music Academy was finished by the final three concerts in Gjakova Prishtina and Tetovo. The Academy became the main cultural event of the Gjakova region during the two weeks in July.  This year, the Czech Republic again participated as an active partner. The Czech music pedagogue Lukáš Moťka led courses for students, performed in several concerts and conducted some of them.

ESMA 2017 presented a number of musical activities between July 10 and July 23 and 120 young musicians from Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Italy and South Africa participated in the lessons with a great interest and performed together in concerts in Gjakova, Prishtina and Tetovo (Macedonia). The concerts of students and music professors, who mostly presented musical works by W.A Mozart, D.Sostakovic and L.Grondahl, were attended by an audience of several hundreds who appreciated the musical skills of the young musicians.

The Academy was held for the second time under the patronage of the Gjakova-Basel Foundation with the support of the municipality of Gjakova and several diplomatic representations in Kosovo, especially the ones of Austria and Germany. The cooperation with the Prague HAMU allowed two visiting professors - Kamila Moťková (oboe) and Lukáš Moťka (trombone) to lead specialized lessons in 2015. The participation of the Czech music pedagogue Lukáš Moťka in 2017 builds on the tradition of previous years of the Academy and simultaneously contributes to the promotion of the best image of the Czech culture and the Czech music tradition.

The project of the music academy was founded by the Czech Embassy in Pristina in 2012. In 2013, the Czech Embassy organized the event again with the Czech pianist and music pedagogue Jaromír Klepáč. The Academy enjoyed a great success and it continued in 2014 on the initiative of the German Embassy. The Luxembourg Embassy organized the Academy in 2015. Since 2016, the Academy of Music has been organized by the Gjakova-Basel Foundation in the city of Gjakova.
