Hashim Thaçi – new President of Kosovo

On April 7, 2016 Hashim Thaçi took the presidential oath in the Kosovo Parliament, and the next day he took over from the outgoing President Atifete Jahjaga the Constitution and the Duty of the President. The ceremonial handover took place on Skanderberg square in the center of Pristina. In his first presidential speech, President Thaçi, inter alia, emphasized Kosovo efforts - as a multi-ethnic secular state - to promote values of the Euro-Atlantic family, to fight terrorism and to instigate peace and dialogue. Concerning presidential duty President Thaçi said to the Kosovo citizens: “And I am just a humble President of a nation of Heroes”.

Solemn inauguration was attended by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Albanian President Bujar Nishani and Prime-Minister Edi Rama. During the ceremony, a multi-ethnic children choir performed the song „Imagine“ by John Lennon. The inauguration was concluded by a solemn concert performed by Kosovo Philharmony conducted by Baki Jashari.
