On July 19 – 29, 2015 already the forth annual summer music festival – European Summer Music Academy (ESMA) - for students from all over Europe took place in Pristina. For ten days Pristina lightened up due to a series of musical events while 170 young musicians under the guidance of 19 professors attended, with great enthusiasm, masterclasses and performed live concerts in Pristina as well as a public rehearsal of Mozart´s opera Cosi fan tutte in Gjakova.

During the festival the gala concert of professors, three student concerts and, at the end of this year´s Academy, a concert of festival string orchestra were performed. Apart from that there was a modern unconventional adaptation of opera Cosi fan tutte performed at the Pristina National Theatre. Also the Czech language was heard on the stage in presentation of a promising soprano Stefani Dudikj when she performed an aria from Bedřich Smetana’s opera The Kiss.

Pierre Weber, Head of the Luxembourg Embassy in Pristina which organized this year’s ESMA, introduced the Academy: “It is my sincere hope that ESMA will enable many young talents to progress on this path, with the help and under the guidance of a select group of professional musicians, who will make up this year’s faculty.“ The ceremonial conclusion of ESMA on 29 July, 2015 in the full Red Hall took place in a spirit of great success of this year’s academy and proved that Weber’s hope was fulfilled.

The ESMA was founded by the Czech Embassy in Pristina in 2012 and the Czech Embassy organized the event in 2013 again. The Academy enjoyed a great success in Pristina and by the initiative of the German Embassy it continued in 2014, and the Luxembourg Embassy is organizing the Academy in 2015. Thanks to the cooperation with Prague Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts (HAMU) the Czech Republic is represented this year again. The HAMU entrusted two visiting professors – Kamila Moťková (oboe) and Lukáš Moťka (trombone), to represent the best image of the Czech music tradition together with the Czech pianist and music pedagogue Jaromír Klepáč who was at the origins of the ESMA idea.
