Rosh Hashanah in Kosovo

On September 14, 2015 the association Bet Israel Kosova held a traditional festive dinner on the occasion of the Jewish New Year, called Rosh Hashanah. In the presence of members of the Jewish community in Kosovo, friends of Bet Israel association, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and others, one of the key Jewish feasts commemorating anniversary of creation of Adam and Eve according the Hebrew Bible was celebrated. Apples dunked in honey were not missing on the festive table to symbolize hope in the coming year, and a whole fish with the head intact was served to symbolize fertility.
 

Association Bet Israel Kosova brings together almost 100 active members. Ruzhdi Shkodra is its President. There live over 40 Jews in Kosovo in the present. Bet Israel’s mission is “cultivation of traditionally and historically good relations between Albanian and Jewish people to promote welfare and tolerance not only between these two people, but also between all freedom-loving people”.
