Visit of Czech Senators to Kosovo

On June 5 and 6, 2017 - less than a week before early parliamentary elections - an intensive working visit of the Committee on European Affairs and the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic was held in the Republic of Kosovo. The Senators under the leadership of Chair Mr. Václav Hampl and Chair Mr. František Bublan had an opportunity to meet important representatives of the Kosovo political scene across the political spectrum (Ms. Njomza Emini - Chairwoman of the  EU Integration Committee, Mr. Xhavit Haliti - Vice-President of the Parliament, Chairman of the Stabilization and Association Committee and Member of the EU Integration Committee, Daut Haradinaj - Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs, Security and Kosovo Security Forces). They also met heads of international institutions active in Kosovo (Mr. Jan Braathu - OSCE Head of Mission in Kosovo, Mr. Bernd Thran - Deputy Head of EULEX, Gen. Giovanni Fungo - Commander of KFOR), and representatives of the Serbian and Jewish communities (Mr. Saša Rašić - former adviser to the Minister for EU Integration and former Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr. Ruzhdi Shkodra - Chairman of the Jewish community Bet Israel). Last but not least, they visited the project of Czech Development Cooperation - Wastewater Treatment Plant at Badovac Lake.
 

The main issues to discuss were the visa liberalization for Kosovo citizens, security in the context of Islamist radicalism, transformation of the KSF into the KAF, the future of EULEX, the status and coexistence of minorities in Kosovo and the future of the Czech Development Cooperation in Kosovo, including its potential for the business.
