Ceremony on the accasion of "Integrated Border Management" in Merdare

On February 16, 2017 a ceremony was held to mark the start of working on the "Integrated Border Management" at the border crossing point between Kosovo and Serbia in Merdare. The ceremony was attended by senior representatives of the Kosovo administration and representatives of the diplomatic and international community. President Hashim Thaçi mentioned that the start of working on the "Integrated Border Management" in Merdare is a result of the political dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, and will serve as a tool for deepening of friendly neighborly relations. The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi, Interior Minister Skender Hyseni, Minister of Dialog Edita Tahiri, EU Head of EU Office Nataliya Apostolova and Head of EULEX Alexandra Papadopoulou.

The construction of a new border crossing point between Kosovo and Serbia in Merdare is funded by the European Union. Implementation of the project was entrusted to a United Nations agency UNOPS. The beneficiary of the project is the Kosovo Ministry of Interior. "Integrated Border Management" will consist of six border crossing points, three of which will be financed by the EU Office in Kosovo and the remaining three by the EU Delegation in Serbia. The completion of the work is expected in the second half of 2018. The project aims to revive ties between Kosovo and Serbia.
