The cornstone for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was laid in April 2015. The project, worth about 700 thousand EUR, was funded by the Czech Development Agency and it was focused on the wastewater treatment from the village Mramor and other adjacent villages. The Wastewater Treatment Plant will greatly improve the water quality in Lake Badovac, which serves as the source of drinking water for Pristina and the nearby town Gračanica.

One part of the project was also the awareness campaign in three primary schools in the municipalities Mramor, Sutjeska and Bursia in 2017. The students learned about the basic principles of environmental protection during the campaign. Other parts of the event included the distribution of information materials and cleaning X the lakeshore.

During the inauguration ceremony of the WWTP Badovac in Mramor Village Minister of Economic Development, Valdrin Lluka said that this issue was the priority for Kosovo Government, since in Kosovo only 2 % of waste water is treated.  This project funded by the Czech Republic will become the pioneer for other larger similar projects.

When presenting  the introductory speech of the Czech Ambassador, Ivo Silhavy, the Kosovo media quoted in particular the words that it was an important project for the inhabitants of Kosovo not only in the terms of the environment and the improvement of drinking water, but also in the further successful cooperation between Czech and Kosovo businessmen. The Director of the Czech Development Agency, Pavel Frelich, also expressed his satisfaction with the Czech assistance, which brings significant benefits in cleaned water to the citizens of Pristina and Gračanica.

Prishtina Deputy Major Selim Pacolli said that Czechia’s support through this kind of projects is welcomed and thanked for the given support: “I thank people of Czechia. This is an especially important project for Pristina citizens”. Ilir Abdullahu Manager of Pristina Regional Water Company: ”This Treatment Plant is of a special importance. This is second Plant after Harilaci one. I am happy that we are getting it to manage, since it is a Plant of high technology. Hope we will have more similar plants to be able to offer quality water to citizens”.

RTK 1 and RTK 3 broadcast the news on WWTP inauguration in Badovac on their main news blocks. They quoted Czech Ambassador Ivo Silhavy expressing his happiness about being able to help Kosovo citizens in their video reports. Along with that they broadcast a short statement of Kosovo Minister Valdrin Lluka saying how the implementation of WWTPs in about 80 % of Kosovo waste waters is going to be started within this year.
