Czech firms dominated on Expokos Fair in Pristina

The 15th International Expokos Fair was held from 25 to 27 May 2016 in Pristina. Within the framework of the project of the economic diplomacy PROPED six Czech companies from the energy sector, water management and road maintenance attended the event. The Czech participation was the largest of all foreign participants and the Czech Embassy became one of the main partners this year.  As a part of the event a fair called “The Green Festival“ was organized with focus on environmental technologies.
 

At the opening ceremony, the Czech Ambassador Ivo Šilhavý emphasized that "Kosovo is a young and dynamic country and it needs the best technology, modern know-how and reliable partners for its economic development. This is exactly what the Czech companies can offer here at the fair specifically in the field of water sanitation, waste management and underground engineering, in the field of power plants and cooling towers, and asphalt road maintenance as well" Ambassador Šilhavý also mentioned activities of the Czech Embassy in Pristina supporting mutual business activities, including organization of seminars on export and investment opportunities in Kosovo.

At the opening ceremony, also the US Ambassador Greg Delawie, Kosovo's Minister for Economic Development Blerand Stavileci, Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Ferid Agani and General Manager of Procredit Bank Ilir Aliu delivered their speeches.

The 15th edition of the Expokos Fair was attended by 50 Kosovo companies and besides the Czech Republic, another 12 foreign companies from Albania, Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey and the USA took part in the event. The representatives of the company ŠKODA PRAHA Inc., REKO PRAHA Inc., Ircon Ltd., TopolWater Ltd., PROVOD Ltd. and Siltek Ltd. were among the participants from the Czech Republic. Minister for Economic Development Blerand Stavileci visited several times the Czech stand to talk in detail with the representatives of the Czech companies.

The Czech firms appreciated the professional organization of the fair, the opportunity to establish personal contacts, including the intensive negotiations with the potential partners from the Kosovo companies Ekoinvest (energy) and Project Plus (water management / wastewater treatment plants).  The senior managers of ŠKODA PRAHA Inc. examined possibilities of their involvement in the reconstruction of existing power plants Kosovo A and Kosovo B and in the project of the new power plant Kosovo New/C development. They mentioned they were continuously monitoring economic activities in the Western Balkans, and as one of the main achievements in the region they consider winning the tender for the power plant Pljevla in Montenegro. The managers pointed out that they see further opportunities for their business in Kosovo in the projects of reconstruction and construction of the new energy sources. They see in Kosovo the opportunity for other Czech companies, too. Based on their personal knowledge, they find the developing Kosovo's economy with new companies operating in the energy sector as an interesting and promising market.

During the informal interviews, representatives of the Czech companies said that after meeting Kosovo’s business reality their impression of Kosovo became significantly more positive. At the same time, they stressed the need to continue in informing the Czech entrepreneurs about the business opportunities in Kosovo.

Kosovo media mentioned the strong Czech presence in most of their reports about the Expokos Fair and also quoted the opening words of Ambassador Šilhavý.
