Gjirafa’s first steps can be traced back in 2011, when the founder & CEO Mergim Cahani, started developing the company vision during Master’s studies at NYU, in New York. During that time, Mergim had an opportunity to work with a world leading professor and research in the field, Prof. Torsten Suel, to build a project for the New Zealand search engine. Further, having a few Czech roommates during the time as a student, enabled Gjirafa to cooperate with former roommates who later started to work as associates for several financial investors in Czech Republic. This experience would lead Gjirafa to get in touch with different investors and start a successful cooperation with the US and the Czech Republic investors.

Early 2014, Gjirafa with a team joined StartupYard accelerator in Prague. During the StartupYard era, strong relationship was created with several individual investors from Czech Republic and the U.S; among them Credo Ventures, StartupYard and Rockaway Capital. Ever since, Gjirafa has closed the biggest technology investment in the region, an investment led by Rockaway Capital.

Today, Gjirafa is working towards building the internet economy and building on previous cooperation with existing investors has been growing stronger. Gjirafa, Inc. (https://gjirafa.com), is an Albanian language search engine, a content platform, and a fast growing e-commerce company; dominates or leads a variety of Internet consumer services in South East Europe. The vision is to build and facilitate Internet Economy growth in the region.
