Incoming mission of Kosovo experts from the energy sector in the Czech Republic

On 30-31 October 2017 the Czech Power Industry Alliance organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pristina the "Incoming mission" of Kosovo experts. The program of the mission was focused on the energy sector which started with a tour to the Czech power plants Tušimice and Ledvice and was followed by a seminar with a subsequent B2B meeting of the Czech and Kosovo companies. The mission was implemented as a project of economic diplomacy funded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and organized by Škoda Praha. Kosovo was represented by Arben Gjukaj, the General Director of the State Energy Corporation (Korporata Energjetike e Kosovës – KEK).
 

The program of the mission was prepared in response to the current state of Kosovo energy and to the upcoming tenders in which the Czech companies may apply for contracts. The visit of the Kosovo experts started on October 30 with the tour of the reconstructed power plant Tušimice and of the new power plant Ledvice in northern part of Bohemia, where detailed information on operating parameters, financial costs and technological procedures was provided.

The seminar, held at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (MIT) on 31 October 2017, was attended by 20 representatives of the Czech companies - FANS, a.s., Alta, a.s., ZVVZ Group, a.s., Arako, s.r.o., Sigma Group, a.s., Doosan Škoda Power, s.r.o., KIP Brno, s.r.o., Škoda Praha, a.s., Vítkovice Holding, a.s., by the representatives of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic (CoI), the Czech Power Industry Alliance (CPIA), MIT and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pristina. The seminar was launched by the Director of the Department of Foreign Economic Policies I of the MIT Mr. Martin Pospíšil, who appreciated inter alia the active involvement of the Czech diplomacy in the Balkans, the growth of the Czech exports to Kosovo and the prospects of the involvement of the Czech entities in the reconstruction and building of the Kosovo energy sector. CEO of Škoda Prague Mr. Peter Bodnár presented the CPIA and Škoda Prague including the suitability and capacity of the Czech companies to participate in the reconstruction of Kosovo energy sector.

Director Mr. Arben Gjukaj described the current state of Kosovo's energy sector, based on electricity production in power stations Kosovo A and Kosovo B supplied by lignite from nearby coal mines (3rd largest stock in Europe and 5th in the world). Mr. Gjukaj also said that Kosovo perceives the Czech Republic as a friendly country. In addition, he highly appreciated the possibility of excursion to the Tušimice and Ledvice power plants and the very good timing of the incoming mission, which “takes place at the right time”.

The seminar was moderated by the Director of the Section for International Relations of the Confederation of Industry Mr. Lukáš Martin on a very professional level. Mr. Martin also praised this type of seminars as an effective and useful form of providing up-to-date information to the Czech entrepreneurs.
