In the presence of the Head of the Representative Office of the Czech Republic, Mr Petr Starý, and the Mayor of Beit Sahour, Mr Jihad Chér, a fruit and vegetable dryer was presented to the Arab Women's Union (AWU).
The technical design of the dryer was carried out by the Czech company, Lavaris, from the town of Libčice nad Vltavou. The dryer, financed from Czech Foreign Development Cooperation funds, will provide economic opportunities for women working in the AWU. The dryer works through a solar technology device, supplied from the Czech Republic, which makes the air hot thus enabling the produce to be dried. The implementation of this project will lead to an increase in earnings for the AWU by giving them new products to sell on the local market. At the same time, this project will introduce a new Czech solar heating technology to the Palestinian territories, giving the company an opportunity to engage further with interested businesses in the West Bank and the wider region in the future.
